Tomomi “Jimi” Kumai, MA, PCC is a Professional Certified Coach (ICF), a certified Intercultural Trainer through the Intercultural Communication Institute, and a certified Neurodiversity Coach. She specializes in supporting leaders, teams, and globally mobile professionals to navigate complexity across cultures, identities, and ways of thinking with clarity, compassion, and confidence.
Jimi is deeply committed to creating intentional, psychologically safe spaces where people can slow down, reflect, and reconnect with their strengths. Her work centers on helping individuals and organizations build awareness, bridge differences, and transform adversity into meaningful growth and advocacy.
With more than 20 years of experience working in multicultural organizations across the United States, Japan, Korea, and China, Jimi brings both professional depth and lived insight to her work. For over a decade, she has coached and trained professionals at all levels, including C-suite executives, senior leaders, high-potential talent, and individual contributors. Her clients often operate across Western and Eastern cultural contexts and navigate global, hybrid, and neurodiverse environments.
Jimi holds a Master’s degree in Linguistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and coaches in English, Japanese, and Korean. Her focus areas include strengths-based coaching, global leadership development, intercultural intelligence, neurodiversity-informed coaching, and organizational behavior, with particular emphasis on East-West perspectives. Her approach integrates evidence-based coaching, intercultural frameworks, and neurodiversity-affirming practices to support clients in aligning values, leveraging strengths, and taking intentional action toward sustainable success.
In her coaching and facilitation, Jimi invites honest dialogue and deep self-reflection. Clients gain new perspectives, expand choice, and develop practical strategies that support both professional effectiveness and personal well-being. Her work is especially valued by leaders seeking high achievement without burnout and by organizations committed to inclusion, belonging, and relational resilience.
Born and raised in Hiroshima, Japan, as a bicultural citizen of Japan and Korea, Jimi has lived in the United States for over 11 years, in Korea for 8 years, and in China for 1 year. She is currently based in the Austin, Texas area. Her personal journey has profoundly shaped her coaching philosophy. After accompanying her son through a four-year battle with brain cancer, experiencing deep loss, and later navigating her own cancer journey and recovery in 2022, she brings grounded presence, emotional depth, and reverence for life into her work.
Outside of her professional practice, Jimi finds renewal in nature through hiking, movement through running and walking, and meaningful connection through conversation and community. She treasures time with her family and lives by the belief that pain, when met with awareness and support, can become purpose.
